PSCJR20250820 Public Safety & Criminal Justice Reform Committee Meeting:
§ Quarterly reports, changes or updates that pertain to the offices of Public Safety
§ Banning the sale of Kratom in the City of Toledo
I oppose and hope you reconsider because I think it's safer than other things that are legal like alcohol and it doesn't mean it shouldn't be regulated but I know so many people it's been a life changer for.
Your issue is with 7-OH not Kratom. The FDA themselves confirm that Kratom is not their concern and made comment that the differences are "night and day". Please do not move forward with this. Many use it to alleviate issues such as pain and anxiety. As someone who suffers with anxiety, this is a godsend. You are trying to ban something you do not understand, please listen to reason and science and stop falling for the attacks which should be directed to 7-OH
Please.
Oppose this ban bill. This could really damage a lot of people's lives. If they don't have access to this life-saving plant.I've used this plant for years safely. It's the synthetics that need to be banned like 70h
I’ve suffered from 3 types of severe arthritis since age 2. In 2016 the FDA/DEA began pressuring physicians to stop prescribing opiates. As a result, my rheumatologist of 36yrs retired & moved out of state, leaving me with no pain relief-NSAIDS caused me to bleed out. I began using Kratom leaf powder & still do to manage my pain. I have lived with inoperable brain cancer for years & survived breast cancer with Kratom. I have a life due to Kratom! Everything we put in our bodies have risks!
Kratom saves lives on a daily basis from those who have been actively addicted to REAL street drugs. Kratom is natural and should always be available to those who just need harm reduction support!
Kratom is safe and natural medicine that assists in the lives of americans with chronic illness ,chronic pain and even addiction. Ohio is PLAGUED with drug overdoses and our failing medical industry often pushes people to street drugs that are now KILLING people. kratom and its many alkaloids needs to be studied not CRIMINALIZED
I don’t care what you have heard, one normally cannot abuse kratom. If you go to extraordinary expense and equipment, I’m sure you can figure out a way, but plain leaf kratom is just a helpful herb as long as it’s not been an adulterated. Have no problem whatsoever with regulating purity. In fact, I would appreciate it.
I strongly oppose the ban of kratom and 7oh. I was hit head on by a DRUNK DRIVER (that's legal and available on every corner and store country wide and socially acceptable) while I was on my way to work on a Sunday morning at 5am for overtime and he was on the wrong side of the road and I broke my neck. Kratom and 7oh got me thru all the pain without the use of any painkillers or full agonist opiate. Being clean from opiates for over 8 years. There is 0 overdoses from 7oh unless mixed with drugs
Kratom has saved my life as well as my wife's. I don't know where we would be today without this amazing plant. We have both been clean and sober almost 10 years now. Please, PLEASE, do not ban such an important plant that helps save so many lives.
Kratom tea offers plant-based relief and recovery, helping people manage pain and avoid opioids. A ban would harm the community, while regulation ensures safety, age limits, and quality standards. Keeping kratom legal and regulated supports safer choices, public health, and plant-based wellness for everyone in Toledo.
I've been blessed to have 8 1/2 years of getting my life back, because of a tea. Everyone deserves that choice.
Hello there! I am a recovering heroin and prescription opiate addict with almost 9 years clean. Kratom and 7-OH have been a big part of my recovery and have worked wonders for helping me stay away from deadly opiates. I fear without the help of kratom and its alkaloids my cravings to use heroin and other pharmaceuticals would be much harder to manage. I highly recommend keeping this product legal to help keep people like me from going back to the street. Thank you :)
I live in Toledo and I do not believe in the outright prohibition of substances. I believe regulation of the production/sale of Kratom is a much more effective way of maintaining public health and safety.
I use kratom and 70h products to help with chronic spine hip and leg pain. with these products I am able to function and still go to work. i move furniture for a living and I'm in pain most of the time to the point where I won't get up and do chores or yard work. but when I take kratom i feel ok enough to actually do those things. sometimes the pain is very acute and then thankfully I have 7oh to turn to. Please do not ban the solution that has worked so well for me and others.
Please stop banning plants, natural products and products derived from plants. Especially when those plants have such an incredibly low level of harm. Kratom and 7oh are harm reduction!
I used to be an alcoholic and general disfunctuinal member of society. In 2016 I began supplementing my life with Kratom and was finally able to fight anxiety, go to community college with a 4.0 GPA, and graduate last year to become a healthcare worker. I have been sober 10 years now. Please don't ban this plant , it needs age restriction. Millions of Americans like me use plain leaf kratom. The negativity of recent is with synthetic man made chemicals at smoke shops that isn't natural kratom.
I am a life-long Toledo citizen and I am strongly opposed to the kratom ban. Kratom is a safe, natural leaf with many documented medicinal benefits and should not be taken from Toledoans. Synthetic "7OH" products and other unnaturally concentrated products can and should be regulated, but raw leaf kratom is safe for the public. Taking it away unduly restricts our citizens and is a clear example of government overreach.
Kratom should remain safe and legal for all Toledoans.
"There's a group of kratom manufacturers, farmers, distributors, and retailers that are selling the kratom leaf, and that is not our focus. Our focus is the synthetic concentrated form (7-OH)." – Marty Makary, FDA Commissioner
98% of the community comments here—your local constituents—are pro-kratom leaf.
The FDA doesn’t want to ban it. The public doesn’t want to ban it. So why would you?
I am 92 years old and I use the Kratom powder intermittently as needed for my chronic pain. It helps me greatly to maintain my exercise routines and my 5,000 steps per day which keeps me going. Please do not ban the natural Kratom leaf product. I hope to make it past age 100 and I don't think I will without the help of Kratom to allow me to keep moving.
I oppse the ban on pure leaf kratom.pure leaf kratom is safe and effective. 7oh is not kratom and i agree it should be banned. The ohio kcpa has been sitting in the ohio senate for 3 yrs now after being passed thru the house if this had been in place we wouldnt be dealing with this synthetic that is causing a problem again 7oh is not kratom.if the kcpa would be in place kratom would be regulated and you could be prosecuting the people making it .do not ban pure leaf it saved my life 8 yrs ago

Kratom and 7oh are both far safer than cigarettes and alcohol which remain legal and accessible. We need smart regulation not outright bans!
Please.
